Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida Announces the 2025 Virginia Thomas Big of the Year in Bay County

Panama City, FL - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida is proud to announce Gage Proctor as

the recipient of the 2025 Virginia Thomas Big of the Year award in Bay County. This award recognizes a

mentor who exemplifies extraordinary commitment, compassion, and service to youth in the community.

Gage has been a dedicated Big Brother to his Little Brother Khayman since November 2021. At the time of

their match, Khayman was just 7-years-old and in need of a strong role model to support him both

academically and socially. Over the past three and a half years, Gage has done just that—helping

Khayman with reading and math, encouraging his growth in friendships, and building a bond rooted in

trust, respect, and shared interests.

The pair has developed a meaningful connection through their mutual love of Minecraft and comics, while

also taking time to give back to their community with activities like beach cleanups and exploring the

outdoors. Gage has also helped Khayman build confidence and learn to stand up for

himself—foundational skills that will serve him well throughout his life.

Khayman's family has consistently praised Gage's dedication, calling him "one in a million" and

expressing their deep gratitude for his positive influence. Khayman's mother had this to say about how

Gage has helped her son: "Gage has been a tremendous influence on Khayman by working with him on

his overall communication skills and helping him open up and express emotions better. Gage helps him

talk through things and also sets big goals for the future. He's a great role model, good leader, and is good

at communicating."

The Virginia Thomas Big of the Year Award is named in honor of longtime community advocate Virginia

Thomas, who moved to the Panama City area in 1965 and quickly immersed herself in service. A

passionate supporter of children, she served on numerous boards and helped provide opportunities for

countless youth.

Presented annually in Virginia's spirit of service, love, and commitment to youth, this award celebrates

mentors who go above and beyond. Gage Proctor embodies those same values through his consistency,

compassion, and unwavering support of his Little Brother. On behalf of our board and staff, we extend

our deepest gratitude to Gage for his steadfast dedication to empowering
