2025 Escambia County Big of the Year

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida proudly announces Erin Roberts as the 2025 Escambia County Big of the Year. This annual honor recognizes a mentor who exemplifies exceptional commitment, compassion, and service to youth in the community.

Since Erin was first matched with her Little Sister Janaisha more than seven years ago, she has gone above and beyond. She doesn't do it for recognition, but simply because that's who she is. What began as a new mentoring relationship has grown into a remarkable bond, rooted in trust, consistency, and countless shared experiences that have shaped them both.

Whether sitting side by side to work through homework, patiently teaching driving skills, or enjoying beach days to unwind and laugh, Erin has created a safe and supportive space where Janaisha feels seen, encouraged, and empowered.

Their time together has been filled with meaningful moments: baking cookies in Erin's kitchen, having heartfelt talks during car rides, and navigating the daily challenges of growing up. Beyond the day-to-day, Erin has also helped Janaisha plan for her future. Together, they have participated in our Big Futures classes and Trade Days event, exploring career paths, setting goals, and preparing for what lies ahead.

Erin's dedication to youth mentorship doesn't stop with her Little Sister. She has extended that same spirit of support to others, even bringing Janaisha's siblings to our future-building events and demonstrating that she doesn't just believe in the power of mentorship — she lives it.

On July 5, our staff had the joy of surprising Erin with the award while she was vacationing with her family in Perdido Key. Many of her relatives were visiting from out of town and were thrilled to witness the special presentation and meet Janaisha in person. The moment was filled with emotion, pride and celebration — a testament to the impact Erin has had not just on her Little Sister, but on all who know her.

Through every step of their journey, Erin has remained a steady, compassionate, and inspiring presence in Janaisha's life. Though Erin may humbly say she's just doing her part, her unwavering guidance and care have made a lasting impact not only on Janaisha, but also on her family and the entire Big Brothers Big Sisters community.

On behalf of our board and staff, we extend our deepest gratitude to Erin for her steadfast dedication to empowering youth and for equipping Janaisha with the tools needed to reach her full potential.
